Requirements and Compensation Structure

General Requirements for All Positions

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders; to bend, twist, and reach as necessary to repair/renovate components; to lift and carry bulky items, load equipment, and materials onto a vehicle
  • Pass pre-employment and periodic drug testing
  • Ability to work from and operate a ladder
  • In proper physical health to work indoors and outdoors at all times of the year including inclement hot weather and cold weather
  • Ability to work 45+ hours per week throughout the state of Kansas (all positions except Construction laborer)
  • Ambition to succeed and ability to strategically think through projects
  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • Ability to perform mathematics and read a tape measure
  • Ability to operate light duty equipment including skill saw, table saw, sander, router, drill, nail gun, etc.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate directions from work orders and technical project instructions
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Ability to comprehend names, functions, and aspects of various parts, tools, and construction-related items
  • Valid driver’s license (requirement of all positions except general labor)
  • Professional appearance with proper grooming
  • Professional conduct and demeanor with respect for customer and company personal and real property
  • Ability to demonstrate growth, knowledge, and skill in various aspects of construction
  • Understanding of relevant safety standards for construction
  • Ability to properly mask, contain, protect, and clean project sites with respect to different project types
  • Possess reliable transportation (all positions except general laborer and office assistant)

Tool Requirements

General Tool Requirements for Carpenter Positions Including Laborer

  • Soft toed boots with tool bag/tool belt and gloves
  • Assorted screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets, pliers, utility knives, putty knives, 9” paint roller frame, assorted paint brushes, hammers, flat pry bar, adjustable wrench, and 5 in 1 painters tool
  • 25’ tape measure
  • Cordless drill with assorted drill bits
  • Safety glasses and hard hats provided

Tool Requirements for Levels Including Carpenter Assistant And Above

  • All general tool requirements shall apply
  • Assorted drywall knives, speed square, chalk line, assorted wood chisels, cold chisel, torpedo level, 24” level, Paddle bits, drill bits, hole saws, drill tips, hack saw, metal snips, drywall jab saw, nail set, and allen wrenches
  • 35’ tape measure
  • Shop vacuum
  • Reciprocating saw
  • Digital camera

Tool requirements for Drywall technician and Sr. Painter

  • All tool requirements shall apply for Carpenter assistant
  • Extensive collection of drywall knives
  • Extensive collection of paint brushes and rollers
  • Fluorescent lighting, both handheld and floodlighting
  • Sanding poles and containment poles

Tool requirements for Senior Carpenter & Experienced Carpenters

  • All lower-level tool requirements shall apply
  • Framing square, block plane, “C” clamps and other clamps, 4’ level, Wrecking bar, extension cords
  • Ladder(s)
  • Skill saws, Miter saw, coping saw
  • Finish nail gun, Brad nail gun, and stapler
  • Air Compressor

Considerations for Compensation Increases

  • Lead Abatement Certified
  • Haag Certification
  • 2006 + Class B or Class C General Contractors certification
  • Plumbing experience with knowledge and ability to apply experience
  • Electrical experience with knowledge and ability to apply experience
  • Perfect attendance with no disciplinary action
  • Finish carpentry experience with knowledge and ability to apply experience
